Is it necessary first to be doing philosophical counseling for a period of time, before one applies to become certified by your organization?

Dear George, no, it is not necessary. What you need is an MA, Licensura, ABD, or a PHD in Philosophy. Then you can join APPA as an Adjunct Member and complete an APPA Certification Program.
